Ruby on Rails
Ruby on Rails is an open-source framework designed primarily for backend development of web applications. It was created in 2004 and is based on the Ruby programming language.
The framework uses a fixed structure and predefined rules. This allows developers to focus on the functionality of the application itself instead of wasting time on complex setup. This greatly simplifies the work and reduces the cost of the project and its maintenance.
Rails includes a wide range of tools that cover common needs - for example, user authentication, database management, or emailing. This eliminates the need to write everything from scratch, which speeds up the process and helps with efficient deployment.
Ruby on Rails is often used for products that need to get to market quickly. Typically, these are MVPs, e-commerce sites, internal systems, booking tools, or content management platforms. Its clear architecture and strong community make it popular among startups and companies with in-house development teams. Some of the well-known services that use Ruby on Rails include GitHub, Shopify, Basecamp, and Airbnb.
Despite being one of the stalwarts in the field of development technologies, Ruby on Rails has been partially replaced in recent years by newer platforms such as Node.js in some types of projects - especially where higher performance or real-time functionality is needed.
